LEGAL ASSISTANT

This is an excellent opportunity for a Legal Assistant (40 hrs. /wk.) at our Jackson Street Administration Office in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Will work to create a climate where reproductive and sexual health is protected and promoted. Specifically, will support the Department of Legal Advocacy, Services and Compliance's by assisting with compliance. Assist in drafting business agreements, contracts, briefs, memos and grants to help build strong community-focused partnerships. Provide administrative assistance and organization for the department. Assignments will primarily be project-based in the area of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) operations, including assisting in contract and lease review, health care compliance, and other services and initiatives as assigned to serve staff, patients, and communities.

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook and Power Point skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, dynamic legal environment.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. Two years of experience in an office setting. Legal assistant experience preferred. Experience in health care administration, contracts, or non-profit compliance a plus.

The position is predominantly sedentary requiring the ability to sit, bend, stand and walk. May require occasional stooping, reaching, stair-climbing and repetitive motions of the hands and wrist related to writing and typing at an electronic keyboard. Effective speech and hearing ability to allow for effective communication. Rarely requires kneeling, pushing/pulling and repetitive motions of the feet.
Physical demands of the position necessitate hearing, talking, handling and grasping regularly. May require lifting up to 30 pounds. Specific vision conditions include close vision reading. Requires the ability to operate a computer, telephone, fax, copy machine and calculator.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position is generally performed in an office environment but involves frequent interruptions. The noise level is generally low to quiet. The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position may occasionally require in-person meetings in Milwaukee or Madison.
