EFLS Program: One way to join our Field Operations Leadership team is through our Experienced First Line Supervisor (EFLS) Program, which requires a minimum of three years' experience managing five or more employees or two years or more of military experience. This program provides comprehensive training for the activities you will supervise in our Engineering, Mechanical or Transportation departments. This also includes leadership training in orientation, technical training, and on-the-job training at your assigned location. Your vision will help inspire and drive success for our Engineering, Mechanical, or Transportation teams. Leaders in these roles work in a mostly outdoor environment while supporting our 24x7 operation in varied shifts, including holidays, nights, and weekends. Opportunities exist throughout the 28 states on the BNSF network. For this reason, relocation is often required and depends upon business need.

An ideal candidate should be very flexible regarding location. Work/Training assignment could place an EFLS anywhere on BNSF's operating system (see System Map at www.bnsf.com). Transportation EFLS are placed in a training location for their first six months of employment.After the training program's completion, EFLS are placed in an open position across the BNSF network. Please note that the placement location may differ from the training location, depending on business needs.
Relocation assistance may be provided to those moving over 50 driving miles from their current residence. TRAINING:
Training for Transportation Management Trainees is asix-month program. This opportunity begins with a one-week comprehensive orientation at BNSF Corporate Headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. Following orientation, the trainee will completeseveral additionalweeks at the BNSF Technical Training Center (TTC) in Overland Park, Kansas, their training location, and at the Network Operations Center (NOC) in Fort Worth. Overall, the trainee will learn to manage railroad terminal operations, work on specific logistics projects, manage a train crew (which consists of a conductor and engineer), and prepare for a field operations supervisory position.
PRIMARY DUTIES& RESPONSIBILITIES: Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Participation in classroom and field training. Facilitate multiple safety briefings throughout the shift with crews, dispatchers, maintenance employees and other BNSF Team Members. Lead crew discussions on how to approach others about safety, relay information about safely servicing customer plants and facilities, ways to minimize risk, and create a culture of safety compliance. Hold employees accountable for compliance with rules and regulations established by the Federal Railroad Administration and BNSF Railway. Ensure compliance with attendance policies and rules violations.
Ride trains with the crews and direct operational testing & audits for the crews. Assist crews with personnel paperwork, vacation requests, and provide transportation for crews to board and operate the trains timely. Correspond with customers by providing accurate and timely information regarding their shipments to and from customer facility/plants daily. Plan the movement of cars, inventory, locomotive, crews, and trains within a designated terminal and across an operational division/territory. Optimize crew utilization, the use of locomotives, and rail teams who work on track infrastructure to plan/execute track maintenance and repairs.

At the conclusion of the training program, EFLS will be promoted to the role of Terminal Trainmaster. Duties/Responsibilities for a Terminal Trainmaster include:
Conduct operations tests and safety meetings. investigate accidents and injuries. Monitor and control costs to meet goals. Ensure compliance with BNSF's equal employment policies, safety and operating rules, schedule agreements, and government regulations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work in shifts (can be 12+ hours) in a field-based environment Work in a 24 by 7 operations environment including nights, weekends, evenings and holidays, on-call or available for emergency situations Work both indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet). Work around heavy and moving machinery The environment requires personal protective equipment, hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves. These materials will be provided by BNSF
SUPERVISION:
Supervise train operations in a designated territory Ensure compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, and policies Supervise train, yard, and engine employees in a union environment
LEADERSHIP:

Coordinate the arrival and departure of trains at an operational yard or terminal. Assign and coordinate daily schedules for personnel Provide customers with safe, efficient, and economical service Execute divisional plans, monitor, and manage costs Conduct operational tests, implement safety programs
COMMUNICATION:
Interface and coordinate with other operating departments, including engineering and mechanical, and work groups to include dispatchers and yardmasters, to execute the operations plan Interact with customers by providing accurate and timely information regarding their shipments to and from customer facilities/plants daily

Hours are irregular with a minimum of 40 hours per week and include 12-hour shift requirements. Schedule involves nights, weekends, and holidays, as BNSF is a 24x7 work environment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Authorization to work in the US without Company sponsorship now AND in the future. Valid Driver's License. Be at least eighteen (18) years old or will be eighteen (18) years old upon hire. Able to visually distinguish among red, blue, green, yellow and lunar (clear light) colors and able to see at night. Able to hear and, with training, distinguish auditory signals. Ability to work in a 24/7 environment. Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required. Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet). Able to work in a shop, terminal, or field environment, climb on ladders and walk on uneven surfaces safely. Able to travel up to 25% of the time based on business need. Able and willing to relocate anywhere on the BNSF Railway operating system (western 28 states) upon hire and to relocate within upon career progression and/or as business needs Have a high school degree or achieved a degree through a GED program. have at least three (3) years of professional work experience supervising five (5) or more employees OR at least two (2) years of military experience.
