Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL) Energy Storage and Distributed Resources Division has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the team.
In this exciting role, you will work within a team to develop and operate a laboratory capability for automated experimentation. This position will focus on data management, machine learning, and theory of inorganic materials synthesis. In addition to developing the software for the experimental tools, you will be expected to present findings in conferences and reports as well as to write journal articles to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals.
What You Will Do:
Develop and maintain databases and online dashboards for interactively exploring materials data.
Develop and apply data mining and statistical learning methods to multiple data types to extract trends.
Write and contribute to a large software framework.
Work with robotic lab equipment and helping with laboratory synthesis.
Develop theories for efficient materials synthesis.
Write and publish papers.
What is Required:
Ph.D. in related fields (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or Chemistry).
Extremely high aptitude and desire for programming and building software infrastructure; object-oriented programming, databases (MongoDB preferred), software engineering practice (version control, unit testing, continuous integration). Preferred language of experience is Python.
Prior ability or desire to learn data mining and data analysis.
Excellent communication skills that facilitate interdisciplinary work.

This is a full time, exempt from overtime pay (monthly paid), 2 year (benefits eligible), Postdoctoral Fellow appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years of paid postdoctoral experience.
The monthly salary range for this position is $4,636.00 / mo - $7,103.00 / mo and is expected to start at $6,433.00 / mo or above. Postdoctoral positions are paid on a step schedule per union contract and salaries will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates. Each step represents one full year of completed post-Ph.D. postdoctoral and/or related research experience.
This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
