We are actively looking for a Senior Coastal Engineer to join our Fort Lauderdale office. This position will direct the execution of coastal and waterfront engineering services, provide leadership in the development of the business, manage existing coastal/waterfront engineering staff and assist in the recruitment of future talent for the South Florida Offices. Typical projects and pursuits include coastal resiliency, stormwater management, flood routing, drainage, coastal storm protection, waterfront development, ecosystem restoration, and navigation projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manages and directs coastal, waterfront, Civil, and navigation related engineering projects
  • Directs and manages data collection efforts, coastal engineering analysis, modeling of coastal processes, alternatives analysis and evaluation, preliminary and final design, bid documents, construction administration and post construction monitoring
  • Identifies and prepositions on business development opportunities in South Florida
  • Develops and executes client engagement plans
  • Directs and manages the development of statements of qualifications and proposals
  • Develops scopes of work, proposals, and fees estimates for projects
  • Manages coastal engineering staff in the Miami office through training, coaching, and mentoring
  • Develops and assists staff with their professional development
  • Researches and assists in complying with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions.
  • Successfully support ongoing Coastal / Water practice through contacts and business development efforts working with EPA, Army Corps of Engineers, NOAA, Local Environmental agencies, as well as private sector clients
  • Implements scientific and regulatory tasks for projects to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and policies, including NEPA, Endangered Species Act, and Clean Water Act
  • Experienced with the agency permitting for approval of infrastructure in the civil engineering aspects of coastal construction projects as well as design and wetlands creation including site development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Coastal, Civil, or Waterfront Engineering; required
  • Master's degree in Coastal, Marine, or Civil Engineering; preferred
  • 15+ years' experience as coastal or waterfront engineer; required
  • Experienced in developing and executing coastal and waterfront client engagement plans; required
  • Professional Engineering licensure in Florida or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire; required
  • Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE) certification in the Port Engineering category; preferred
  • Bi-lingual / multi-lingual a plus
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
