About Core Ops, Lead Analysts:

The Core Ops, Lead Analyst plays a key role in shaping and leading the day-to-day production and deliverables of the team. They possess the experience, judgement, and business knowledge to analyze and implement solutions for the most complex and/or ambiguous challenges. This knowledge base includes an in-depth understanding of the Capital System investment process, the securities and investment business, and Operational functions.

The role leads and facilitates collaboration between multiple teams to achieve the necessary business outcomes. The role serves as a coach and mentor to team members by providing the leadership, direction, and support in the assessment and resolution of issues escalated by Analysts and Preparers. They possess a growth mindset and proactively identify, drive, and implement continuous improvements across process design, automation, and workflow simplification. The role is often called on to lead large, complex, ambiguous, and/or cross-functional internal or external projects.

Role summary:

Leads daily production and delivery of work for a team including providing development and support to Analysts and Preparers. Leverages knowledge, experience, and business acumen, to coordinate the delivery of work within the team, anticipates and resolves obstacles, and drives continuous improvement.

Demonstrates subject matter expertise in assigned area and is an experienced sole contributor, providing leadership to the team and contributing to identifying team performance and development needs. Directly engages the Investment Group, works with Trading and other Investment teams, business groups, and stakeholders.

Ensures accounting, operations, and valuation is accurate of investment securities across the globe. May lead or participate in departmental projects and works on process reengineering and continuous improvement initiatives focused on evolving solutions and expanding the leverage of automation. Mentors associates across the team and department and promotes a collaborative and positive work environment.

Serves as the product manager for the team's functional responsibilities and is accountable to ensure timely and accurate deliverables. Operates as technical subject matter expert within the team, the business area, and/or IO. Performs and/or monitors more complex accounting and operational duties for investment vehicles.

Additional responsibilities will vary depending upon team rotations in Accounting Control Team, Accounting Distribution and Pricing Team, Corporate Actions, Complex Instruments Accounting, Governance and Regulatory Reporting, Knowledge Management, Portfolio Accounting Client Team, Shareholder Reporting, Tax, Trade Operations, and Valuation Team.

Primary responsibilities/essential functions-

Strategic Focus:
  • Shapes the goals, objectives, and development needs of the team to achieve IO and CG business outcomes.
  • On an ad hoc and annual basis, works with the manager to assess and align the team's goals to IO's and CG's larger business priorities and objectives.
  • Collaborates with management on forecasting future growth and accompanying headcount needs.
  • Proactively identif ies and recommend s growth and development support needs for team members to achieve team, IO, and CG objectives .
  • Partners with internal/external teams to design and develop the systems, processes, and ways of working to grow team capabilities , improve performance and enable CG priorities.
  • Tactical Focus and Subject Matter Expert: works with a variety of stakeholders across multiple teams and departments to monitor, analyze, identify, solution, and resolve cash, foreign currency, position, and system issues that are moderate to complex in nature.
  • Cash, Position, foreign exchange, Capital System, and Capital's complex system architecture subject matter knowledge.
  • Coordinates, escalates, and facilities complex cash, foreign currency, position, Capital System, and Capital's various book of records inquiries.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for cash, foreign currency, position, Capital System, and system architecture.

  • Applies knowledge, skills, and experience to analyze, formulate, resolve, and escalate issues.
  • Applies knowledge, skills, experience, and expertise to evaluate and recommend a course of action for complex and/or previously unforeseen cash, foreign currency, position, and system issues.
  • Develops options and solutions/recommendations based on sound judgement when leading in development and enhancement of policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Leverages knowledge of internal customer needs to anticipate issues and needs and proactively offer options and solutions when communicating with Trading and other Investment Operations (IO) Teams.


Projects and Initiatives:

  • Leads large/complex cross-department projects including project ownership (plan, milestones, task assignment, deliverables, resource allocation, status), system ownership and development, and implementation and ongoing maintenance.
  • Autonomously leads and drives continuous improvement initiatives within the team (from ideation to implementation) to achieve straight through processing, improve efficiency and effectiveness, and create capacity to focus on more complex and ambiguous issues.
  • Applies experience and exhibits sound judgment when determining whether to implement the improvement directly or if manager input is required.
  • Serves as a product owner for new technologies including providing the vision, priorities/requirements, testing, implementation, and release roadmap to continually improve the system.


Team Leadership:

  • Provides oversight, guidance, mentorship, and development support for Analysts and Preparers as they review, prepare, and approve information/entries and supporting documentation at all levels of work complexity.
  • Drives continuous improvement within the team to include process innovation, ways of working, and meeting management.
  • Actively partners with the manager to grow team capabilities through performance management , coaching /mentoring, and development support.
  • Serves as the voice of the team with internal and external clients (e.g., accountants, consultants, auditors, etc.) to proactively engage and build effective on-going relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve target business outcomes.
  • On an ongoing basis, understands the pulse of the team and develops and implements interventions to maintain and grow team engagement and effectiveness.

  • Existing knowledge of, or ability to quickly assimilate to , Capital Group-specific institutional practices and knowledge ( e.g., knowledge of the investment management industry as it relates to Capital Group's various lines of business investment mandates, investment vehicle structures, investment operations, competitive landscape, and reporting and regulatory environment.
  • Exhibits and shares knowledge in policies, practices, trends, technology, and information affecting the department/business area ).
  • Self-driven (e.g., independently manage workload and achieve target outcomes).
  • Strong business acumen to understand and anticipate business needs/requirements and use business language in verbal and written communications.

  • Capable of working across internal and external stakeholder groups with the level of urgency to deliver outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Strong team leadership experience including managing day-to-day workloads, issue resolution, conflict resolution, coaching /mentoring, development, and performance management.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship building skills - working within and across teams and stakeholder groups to assess and resolve complex and/or ambiguous issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including with senior stakeholders/leadership with a focus on being able to communicate 'the why' behind issues.
  • Strong appetite and capability to drive continuous improvement activity.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of the technology applications that are needed to support the business.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous situations, create clarity, and drive towards effective outcomes.

Hybrid Model:
  • This position does require you to work in the office three times a week with the option to work from home the other two days.


Southern California Base Salary Range: $99,025-$158,440

In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
