Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Technical Manager or general supervision, is responsible for the repair, maintenance, fabrication, or modification of tooling or machinery using a variety of hand and machine tools to maintain all end-making and auxiliary equipment in the plant while ensuring all quality, safety, and production goals are met in compliance with established operating procedures.

Job Duties:



  • Safely setup and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments out of metal.
  • Fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments.
  • Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or machine industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Use a variety of hand tools including pneumatic and other electrical power tools to repair plant equipment and tooling.
  • Use a variety of machine shop equipment to shape steel and other materials into precision forms.
  • Machine parts following engineering drawings when available. Create diagrams with dimensions for work pieces created.
  • Maintain tooling library; reordering parts, tooling, and components as needed.
  • Maintain performance expectations with respect to key performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve operations.
  • Must be able to recognize waste (wasted labor, time, product, etc.) within the machine shop area, adjust accordingly and aid with developing action plans to drive continuous improvement.
  • Requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Communicate directly with co-workers on issues, openly share ideas with others, encourage performance in others, give feedback when needed, and train new employees when applicable.
  • Confer with engineering, supervisory, or operations personnel to exchange technical information.
  • Support the hazardous waste and recycling programs
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment for self, team members, and equipment through daily maintenance, 5S, and housekeeping activities.
  • Shall understand the BRC Food Safety Policy, GMP's, HACCP Principle and Food Safety Standard.
  • While conducting work functions, ensures compliance of all policies, procedures, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules (OSHA).
  • Provide relief to personnel as necessary.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.



Qualifications and Experience Requirements:



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum of two years' experience as a shop machinist in a manufacturing environment / tool & die maker
  • Close tolerance precision grinding experience
  • Apprenticeship and/or post-secondary education preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Understand power sources on all machines used and machine hazards.
  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Ability to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
  • Able to present ideas / issues effectively, actively listen, and work across functional boundaries with the ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, customers, and vendors.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work all shifts including 8 or 12- hour shifts, daylight, and off-shifts as well as weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed



Starting Pay Range:



  • $26.22- $29.11per hour

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel, talk, or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds. There is no continual lifting. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision as well as color recognition. Good hand eye coordination is necessary.

Work Environment:

This position works in a manufacturing environment and around machinery that produces noise.

The noise level in the work environment is very loud. Employees must wear hearing protection and all other assigned personal protective equipment. Temperature can range from extreme cold (<40 degrees) to extreme heat (>95 degrees). The atmosphere contains fumes, dust, and odors.
