Duties

The Federal government is looking to fill IT Specialist positions across many different agencies through this shared job announcement. IT Specialists serve in critical roles across government to develop, deliver, and support IT systems and services to maintain agency operations. Some examples of typical work assignments may include:


  • Perform essential IT tasks associated with the day-to-day operation of Federal government IT systems.
  • Schedule the installation of new or modified hardware, operating systems, and application software to ensure a seamless process.
  • Implement security and privacy controls to protect agency infrastructures and information from internal and external threats.
  • Advise and assist staff in carrying out security development, implementations, operations, and maintenance requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems for a variety of applications, equipment, and operating systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

You must meet BOTH the IT-related experience AND specialized experience or education below.

IT-Related Experience:

You must have IT-related experience in each of the following four competencies which must be supported by the information contained in your resume and other application materials. For both grades, the IT-related experience will be evaluated through the application questionnaire and online assessment.

  1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail;
  2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services;
  3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; and
  4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized Experience: One or more years (12-months) of full-time specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (or comparable experience from outside the Federal service), performing the following duties:

  1. Monitoring databases or systems to ensure data security;
  2. Providing technical assistance related to information technology issues;
  3. Explaining IT related procedures to a variety of audiences; and
  4. Assisting with troubleshooting network systems or software to identify problems.

OR

Education: Must have a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development of adaptation of applications, systems, or networks. NOTE: You MUST submit supporting academic transcripts.

GS-11

Specialized Experience: One or more years (12-months) of full-time specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (or comparable experience from outside the Federal service), performing the following duties:

  1. Performing routine database maintenance or systems to ensure data security;
  2. Providing technical assistance related to information technology issues;
  3. Explaining IT related policies and procedures to a variety of audiences; and
  4. Troubleshooting network systems to identify problems.

OR

Education: Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent graduate degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development of adaptation of applications, systems, or network. NOTE: You MUST submit supporting academic transcripts.
