Substation Quality & Standards Engineer

Ulteig
United States, Idaho, Boise
199 North Capitol Boulevard (Show on map)
Mar 18, 2024
Description

The Opportunity

Ulteig is currently seeking a highly organized, engaging Quality and Standards professional to lead the training efforts and implement quality improvements for professional substation engineers working for one of our key clients. The role will be responsible for training, staying up to date on the client specific standards, developing processes and best practices around quality, and support any upcoming needs and questions specific to the client.

What You'll Do

Day-to-day, the role will require supporting the Project Technical Leads (PTLs) in their questions and project execution - running collaboration and training meetings, operating as the "go-to resource" for client-specific questions on leading/managing engineers (lifecycle, deliverables, technical), and performing quality reviews of deliverables for consistency. The role will improve on the existing resources developed for the key client's project work - creating trainings and "deep dives" into tasks on the process diagram and improving the accessibility and understanding of the existing resources.

Longer term goals will include: the maintenance and updates of a successful key client on-boarding program to train new hires, the improvement of processes & execution on projects to drive consistency and efficiency, support and improvement of a lessons learned process, and the creation of a quality tracking metric. It is assumed that 50% of this role will serve in a Project Technical Lead (PTL) capacity, running billable and technical projects. The remaining 50% will consist of the following:

  • Training new PTL's on specific processes and lifecycle (including running biweekly PTL training meetings and recording the discussions)
  • Serving as the "go-to" person for questions on key client-specific processes
  • Engage with key client internal engineering staff, standards committees, construction groups, and procurement groups to identify process improvements
  • Completing "audits" or high-level review of project deliverables for consistency and quality
  • Creation of training content for client specific processes
  • Capture lessons learned and update quality checklists as appropriate.
  • Serve on Ulteig Quality Council as representative for the Substation department and support Team Quality Champions across the department

What We Expect from You:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering
  • PE License is required
  • 5+ years of experience understanding Key Client Projects
  • Technical expertise in at least one of the following substation design disciplines: Physical, Protection & Control, and/or Civil/Structural
  • Ability to learn and train others on key client project requirements and lifecycle
  • Drive to improve Ulteig's ability to execute key client programs and develop/support the PTL group
  • Ability to effectively communicate and partner with team members
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functioning teams
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must have permanent work authorization to work in the US
