About the Position:

 


The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is Marin County’s largest department, and is comprised of five Divisions: Social Services, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, Public Health and Administration. Reporting to the HHS Chief Strategy Officer, the Equity Manager is responsible for organizing, coordinating and managing the successful implementation of the department’s equity plan and related initiatives. The duties of this position include, developing, implementing and evaluating strategies, programs and tools designed to increase the department’s awareness and capacity to address health and social equity issues at the operational, programmatic and system levels. The Equity Manager leads, trains and promotes the department’s utilization of racial equity tools and builds the capacity of all staff to effectively use the tools. The Equity Manager coordinates equity-related initiatives with the County’s Equity Officer and collaborates with internal and external and community partners. The Manager communicates internally and externally HHS’ commitment to and progress in advancing equity across operations, programs, services and in the community. The Equity Manager may lead and/or supervise program staff.


Hybrid Work Schedule:


Health and Human Services has embraced a hybrid work schedule that considers that some duties of this position may be performed remotely. An option to telework up to three days per week and work the remaining days onsite in San Rafael, CA is available, however, the successful candidate must be able to report to County facilities for meetings, work assignments, and/or disaster service work upon short notice, as needed and deemed appropriate. While onboarding and training, the successful candidate may be required to work primarily onsite before establishing a hybrid work schedule.

 


Our Highly Qualified Candidate:

 


The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of and commitment to advancing racial equity, with knowledge about the responsibility and opportunity for government to do so. As the equity expert for HHS, the successful individual will have at least two years of experience and demonstrated skills to organize, plan and implement department-wide equity initiatives across a diverse and complex set of operations, programs and services. Successful candidates will have experience working in the public sector and possess skill and confidence in written and oral communication for diverse audiences. The ideal candidate will also have experience and interest in working collaboratively with individuals and communities most impacted by inequities and familiarity with the Marin County’s communities and community-based organizations.

 

We recognize your time is valuable, so please note that you must have at least the following required Minimum Qualifications in order to be considered for this position.

 

Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in sociology, education, public administration, ethnic studies, communication, social work, public health, or a closely related field. A Master's degree or other advanced degree in a related field is highly desirable. Two years of experience in the administration of community, health, educational or social justice programs which focus, in part, on the elimination of structural racism.
