Job Summary The Getty Library seeks an experienced candidate to work as a Reference Librarian I with the Reproductions and Permissions team assisting with public services activities. Reporting to the Head of Reproductions and Permissions, the Reference Librarian I's primary duties are to assist with the management and fulfillment of requests for digitization and permission to publish Special Collections materials, many of which are complex and require knowledge of a variety of systems and a general knowledge of intellectual property and copyright issues. Additionally, the Reference Librarian I staffs a public service desk as assigned, and assists with queries from a diverse group of library users (including the public, staff, residential scholars, and registered readers) while referring more complex queries to the Head of Reproductions and Permissions or additional Reference Librarians as appropriate. The Getty Research Institute is dedicated to furthering knowledge and advancing awareness of the visual arts and their various histories through its expertise, ongoing collecting program, public programs, institutional partnerships, exhibitions, publications, digital services, and residential scholars' programs. Serving an international community of scholars and the interested public, the Getty Library is one of the largest art and architecture libraries in the world, with holdings of more than 1.5 million volumes, digital resources, and Special Collections including rare books and journals, rare photographs, prints and drawings dating from the 15th century to the present, architectural drawings and models, art multiples, film, audio and video recordings, digital content, and extensive archival collections. Major Job Responsibilities
Assists in organizing, managing, and fulfilling a high volume of large and complex reproductions and permissions requests for Special Collections materials under general direction. Includes tracking requests, corresponding with requesters, negotiating deadlines with requesters and internal staff, consulting with librarians to identify materials and address copyright issues, preparing rare and unique material for digitization, performing data entry of image metadata, creating invoices, organizing and coordinating large, complex orders, and delivering image orders.
