The posted UC Salary scales set the minimum pay at the appointment as determined by appointment type and if applicable, rank and/or step. The base pay range for this position is $550,000-$650,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan. The Dean is responsible for leading the School of Medicine's overall strategic vision; developing and implementing initiatives that enhance teaching, research, and clinical care across its multiple departments and units; and establishing collaborative partnerships across campus and the community to advance its goals of educating compassionate, skillful, knowledgeable students. The Dean serves a critical role of creating a diverse community of scholars who push the boundaries of scientific discovery and develop innovative therapies that will transform the lives of patients locally and nationally. The Dean must have broad and diverse leadership skills to manage a highly complex organization. In addition to having the ability to collaborate in close partnership with the leadership of the School's departments, the Dean must foster strong relationships with senior campus administrators at UC San Diego, the University of California Regents and Office of the President, and a diverse set of faculty, staff, and students at the School of Medicine. The Dean serves as the School's chief recruitment officer, ensuring UC San Diego draws exceptional faculty and administrative leaders to enhance its academic and research programs. The Dean will represent the School of Medicine and UC San Diego effectively; build strong relationships with internal and external constituents, and be an effective advocate for the School. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences, the Dean has oversight of a multimillion dollar budget that includes both central resources and department funds. The Dean works in close partnership with the Vice Chancellor's Office on evaluating, planning, and/or advocating for major capital and programmatic investments to enhance the School's missions while maintaining fiscal solvency. When applicable, the Dean engages the UC San Diego Health CEO, Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences, and Chancellor on cross-campus investments. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Administrative Management Committee Service Senior administrative positions at UC San Diego Health Sciences are considered at-will. This position will have annual performance reviews with a formal committee review every fifth year. The appointment will be at the Full Professor level. * MD or equivalent medical degree. If a clinical appointment is required, must also have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California. Preferred qualifications
