Serves as Interior Designer for Facilities Planning, Design & Construction, responsible for design, alteration, and furnishing of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic requirements of Baltimore City Public Schools construction and renovation projects.
Essential Functions
- Reviews designs, plans, and supports the specification of interior design elements, in cooperation with project teams, to meet functional, aesthetic, and space management requirements of assigned school and district projects.
- Develops and maintains standards/criteria/specifications/prototypes for interior layouts, finishes, furnishing, fixtures, equipment, and efficient space management.
- Prepares technical drawings, renderings, and related documents to convey interior space design concepts and specifications.
- Coordinates and integrates mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering disciplines into interior design proposals.
- Develops, recommends, and executes procurement strategies and installation and integration requirements for furniture, furnishings, and equipment.
- Evaluate cost estimates, bid proposals, design submissions, construction documents, materials/samples/prototypes, and vendor performance.
- Develops, organizes, and coordinates, in cooperation with others, temporary occupancy provisions/logistics during construction and renovation.
- Oversees and coordinates internal District-wide review of design submissions from contracted/commissioned firms and suppliers.
- Provides on-site coordination/inspection of installations/deliveries/construction and recommends actions as necessary.
- Conducts pre- and post-occupancy evaluations to assess executed design concepts.
- Develops, maintains, and issues complete and accurate reports and other documents, as required.
- Prepares documents recommending/authorizing payment of direct payment orders against approved invoices.
- Works closely with the Senior Project Manager for Interior Design and Director of Design in the development and execution of all aspects of design planning, development, procurement, execution, and inspection.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal and state laws, school board's policies, and professional standards.

Desired Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in interior design or a related discipline is required. The degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
- Three years of related experience in commercial interior design.
- Ability to identify research and apply creative solutions to design projects.
- Proficient in the knowledge and use of computer software, including AutoCAD, Sketch-Up, Microsoft Project, Adobe Creative, and/or similar project management and design software programs.
- Demonstrated experience in the development of FF&E standards and large-scale procurement strategies.
- Knowledge of government contracting and procurement procedures and requirements.
- Knowledge of design, materials, fabrication and manufacturing specifications, methods and trends of interiors, finishes, fixtures, furniture, and equipment for educational/commercial/industrial use.
- Familiarity with ADA guidelines and applicable building codes.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
