Job Summary:

Leads team in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of the company's tax policies and programs. Ensures the tax team is operating effectively and collaboratively and tax compliance and supporting work papers are prepared and maintained effectively. Provides oversight and direction regarding the assigned team, financial and operational activities.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Manages others in the achievement of strategic and operational objectives of the sales tax group (local, regional, or global); ensures organization compliance with applicable laws and government regulations; oversees the preparation of, and reviews tax filings. Provides technical guidance to employees, colleagues, and internal customers.
  • Researches and develops plans for implementing new indirect tax requirements for the US and Canada sales orders. Develops and maintains tax charts, forms, and documentation of indirect taxes.
  • Oversees the communication and implementation of indirect tax policies and programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of indirect tax exemptions for jurisdictions in the US and Canada. Must maintain current, accurate documentation of acceptable exemptions by jurisdiction.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Vertex tax and ECM applications.
  • Hires and maintains a diverse and effective tax team; oversees and assists with career development planning and performance of direct reports.
  • Monitors developing changes in tax laws and relationships with government authorities to determine the organization's most effective response, costs and risks.
  • Manages tax department policies and activities in compliance with indirect tax requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Level Specifications:

  • Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of business or technical support teams comprised of individual contributors. Sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion. May coordinate work activities with other supervisors.
  • Directs routine and repetitive operations of team.
  • Assignments are largely established in accordance with schedules and deliverables. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plans.
  • Collaborates daily with direct reports and peers within similar functions primarily for the purpose of exchanging information.
  • Decisions have a direct impact on team operations. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results may cause delays in schedules and require the allocation of additional time, people and/or financial resources.

Work Experience:

  • Typically 4+ years relevant work experience

Education and Certification(s):

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and job skills can be obtained.

Distinguishing Characteristic(s):

  • Indirect/Sales Tax experience in the US and Canada
  • Tax Exemption experience
  • SAP knowledge
  • 2-4 years in a supervisor role
