WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies. We are seeking a talented linguist to join our Multicultural Communications team, reporting to the director of Multicultural Communications within the Communications Department, which will play a crucial role in ensuring effective, strategic, and culturally sensitive communication across diverse communities. As a linguist on the Multicultural Communications team, you will contribute to the American Red Cross' commitment to providing clear and inclusive communication to diverse communities. You will collaborate with our team to enhance language access, cultural relevance, and overall effectiveness in our communication efforts. The ideal candidate should be proficient in Spanish and possess a deep understanding of cultural nuances, ensuring that our messages resonate with all communities we serve.
*Bilingual candidates (Spanish/English) required for this role*

The work location for this exciting opportunity is virtual. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home and can be located anywhere in the United States with a preference to work East Coast hours.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
* Provide linguistic expertise to support the translation and adaptation of communication materials into various languages.

* Collaborate with internal teams to ensure culturally sensitive and accurate messaging.
* Assist in the development and maintenance of language resources, including glossaries and style guides.
* Conduct language assessments to identify potential communication gaps and propose strategic solutions.
* Support the localization of materials for different regions and communities.
* Stay informed about linguistic and cultural trends to enhance communication strategies.
* Create term entries to establish a corporate dictionary, enhancing consistency across marketing assets.
* Conduct ongoing analysis of linguistic assets to identify actions and operationalize high-impact opportunities.

* Simplify the integration of the translation management system with proprietary and third-party software apps.

Scope: Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. Apply subject matter knowledge. Capacity to understand specific needs or requirements to apply skills/knowledge.

Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):
* Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics, Translation, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
* 5+ years of experience.
* Proficiency in English and Spanish with at least one additional language relevant to the diverse communities served by the American Red Cross.
* Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
* Familiarity with translation tools and technology.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
* Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment with competing priorities.
* Ability to work well with colleagues at all levels, including senior leaders.
* Strong critical thinking and strategic planning skills to ensure effective communications.
* Independent problem solver and self-starter.
* Strong organization and project management skills.
* Ability to handle occasional irregular and weekend hours.
* Familiarity with and commitment to the Red Cross mission.

* Combination of candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++PAY INFORMATION:The starting annual salary range for this position is $65K - $75K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. **We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.** This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.
