The Data Governance Senior Manager will oversee and provide strategic direction to direct reports and other associates in a matrix environment to mature and apply data governance standards and best practices across the enterprise. The Data Governance Senior Manager will partner with the Enterprise Data Office and Line of Business leaders across Capital's investment, operating and client groups to align stakeholders and drive adoption in a positive and thoughtful manner.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Establish Data Governance operating model in Client Groups (LOB)
  • Lead data steward and owner communities and forums that identify risks and drive control mitigation with Data Owners and Stewards.
  • Drive the certification of critical data elements.
  • Drive the business glossary and associate technical metadata content within Collibra.
  • Drive the analysis and resolution of data governance issues (e.g., data ownership and system of record determination, coherent usage) in partnership with data owners, stewards and custodians in LOB and Data Product teams in alignment with standards and best practices.
  • Monitor and review the ongoing effectiveness of the Data Governance operating model.
  • Strengthen data governance engagement in data operations incident and problem management.
  • Partner with Global Risk Management, Legal and Compliance, to ensure adherence to regulatory mandates and security, privacy, and risk policies.
  • Define and mature the measurements and KPIs used to evaluate the effectiveness of enterprise data governance efforts organization wide.
  • Extend and enhance existing Enterprise Data Governance Processes.


Solve enterprise Data Quality Management practices and methods.
  • Perform an initial assessment of critical data elements and associated rules and patterns, including best practice adoption of tools and frameworks.
  • Analyze and make recommendations on issues related to data profiling methods, business requirements definition, data quality rule design and reuse, and associated measurements.
  • Define standards for data quality controls across the full data lifecycle, identifying opportunities for improvement at each stage of the data value chain.
  • Coordinate closely with Data Operations to outline the strategic direction for the Data Quality Service Desk and related data quality operational procedures.
  • Research and define adoption path for advanced data quality detection and prevention methods, including use of statistics, anomaly detection, machine learning and AI.

  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the investment management industry as it relates to Capital Group's various lines of business (e.g., retail, institutional, high net worth), investment mandates, investment vehicle structures, investment operations, competitive landscape, reporting and regulatory environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of general information management practices, including but not limited to:
    • Information management strategy, including relevant industry frameworks.
    • Data governance practices, including data governance program lifecycles.
    • Data stewardship practices
    • Data quality and data profiling
  • Working knowledge of project management principles including a demonstrated understanding of product lifecycles and agile project management methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of process design, re-engineering and change management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills.
  • Active awareness and tracking of Capital Group's strategic business objectives and associated products and services required to achieve those objectives.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of industry and competitor product offerings relevant to Capital Group.
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply effective management skills in all aspects of the talent lifecycle including in interviewing and selection, building effective teams, performance management, and coaching and counseling.
  • Ability to develop and enforce data controls across the enterprise.


Southern California Base Salary Range: $171,968-$292,346

In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
