Location:

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore, MD-Blood Bank

Shift:

Casual PRN (8 hours)

Blood Bank-Evening Shift: 3:30pm - 12:00am

Position Summary:




  • Reports to a Lead/Supervisor or Manager in the Blood Bank.
  • Performs a variety of both routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in the Blood Bank in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • These require a professional level of knowledge to properly execute and analyze results, especially where results are abnormal or atypical.
  • Specific duties in the Blood Bank may vary according to laboratory and shift assigned (i.e duties similar to a Clinical Lab Scientist III or Sr. Cytogenetics Tech, Cytopathology Tech, or Histo Tech III.



Minimum Qualifications:

Education


  • Work requires formal educational in clinical laboratory science, biology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, cytopathology, cytogenetics, and/or microbiology normally acquired through completion of Bachelors degree / four-year postsecondary school program in medical technology/clinical laboratory technology and/or equivalent education and training in one of the noted disciplines or related field.



Work Experience




  • This role is intended for experienced laboratory professionals with a minimum of 2 years experience working in a Blood Bank and verified/recognized certification.
  • Completion of clinical rotation or (one year) equivalent clinical lab experience or course work specific to the discipline. For this level, the employee must demonstrate certification accepted by the Department of Pathology, or MS degree plus 2 years relevant clinical laboratory experience in an approved CLIA laboratory.



Certification:




  • Certification in Medical Technology, MT, MLS, ASCP or a nationally recognized/department approved organization related to discipline is required and must be maintained at all times by the employee in this position.
