Background
The International Rescue Committee, Inc. (IRC) helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to people forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 25 U.S cities, we restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to rebuild their lives. The IRC in Silver Spring was established in 2006 and currently serves over 1,000 immigrants and refugees per year.
Scope of Work
This position will focus on communications and community partner development. This position will report to the community engagement coordinator.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare a monthly newsletter and regular social media content to inform the community of the IRC's work, client stories and needs.
  • Conduct community outreach to establish community partnerships. Track partnership development and outreach efforts.
  • Support the management and engagement of volunteers and community members.
  • Plan/attend community events on behalf of the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Prior experience and interest in community engagement and/or communications preferred.
  • Prior experience and interest working with refugees and immigrants preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English required.

Transform Mid-Atlantic is a non-profit membership association of colleges, universities and non-profits that aims to strengthen the capacity of member institutions. AmeriCorps VISTA helps individuals and communities implement grassroots solutions designed to alleviate poverty. Founded as Volunteers to Service in America in 1965, the program places individuals at nonprofit organizations and public agencies that are fighting literacy, improving health services, reducing unemployment, increasing housing opportunities, reducing recidivism, and expanding access to technology for those living in rural and urban areas of poverty across America.

This position is contingent on available funding.

Currently, 87% of our funding goes directly to programming to support our clients, and your help to cover this cost will ensure that no funding is directed away from serving our clients.
