Mechanical Engineer, Journeyman

MINIMUM SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:



  • Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • 2 - 5 years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer investigating solutions to and/or process issues
  • Experience in consolidating results of mechanical design elements
  • Experience coordinating drafting and design efforts
  • Must be able to conduct independent technical investigations to design or modify materials, components or process specifications
  • Demonstrated creative, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to solve difficult technical problems with minimal oversight, established directions, or guidance
  • Collaborative teamwork skills interacting across multiple disciplines including other systems engineers, software developers, integration teams, quality assurance, production personnel, and program managers
  • Have developed communication skills and the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly and concisely, employing technical writing techniques


DESIRED SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:



  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Familiarity with Research and Development (R&D) Pipelines (identification, evaluation, integration, testing)
  • Experience researching, identifying, and transitioning innovative technologies
  • Familiarity with System Requirements and Key Performance Points Analysis
  • Experience providing transition support for innovative systems and technology
  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis or Corrective Analysis

FILLING THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Prepares design specifications, analyses and recommendation for presentation and approval
  • Has technical responsibility for planning, organizing and conducting technical projects or phases of projects involving design and development of new or improved product and/or processes
  • Investigates solution to product and/or process problems
  • Consolidates results of mechanical design elements for assigned projects
  • Coordinates the efforts of drafters/designers, engineering technical, and machine shop personnel as required by assigned projects
  • Conducts independent technical investigations involving the origination or modification of material, component or process specifications and requirements
  • Provides recommendations and assign work to technical drawing staff
