Position Summary |
The Advisor I position at the College of Engineering's School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, and Mechanical Engineering is an entry-level advising position.
The Advisor I will provide academic and future planning support to a variety of students, with caseloads ranging from 250 to 290 students. The Advisor I is responsible for facilitating one-on-one advising sessions focused on course selection, progress needed toward graduation, career goals, and other opportunities within and external to the College.
The primary function of all Academic Advisor positions in the College of Engineering is to administer student support to enrolled and prospective students while working collaboratively with other Academic Advisors throughout the College of Engineering. Academic Advisors will also maintain up-to-date degree program procedures, policies, and requirements as well as
UGA-wide policies, procedures, and requirements. |

Advising
- Assists students with curriculum planning and registration each semester; and maintain student records/files.
- Effectively facilitates one-on-one advising sessions.
- Provides guidance to students on progress towards graduation.
- Understands requirements, policies, procedures, and the use of student-facing technologies (DegreeWorks, SAGE, Athena, etc.).
- Provides general support related to student decision-making, exploration, and development.
- Considers students' degree progress, interests, and abilities in future planning.
- Uses feedback and assesses student needs to enhance advising practice.
- Demonstrates professionalism and clarity in communications.
- Makes use of provided advising-related information, reports, and data to enhance advising practice.
- Demonstrates knowledge of university and degree requirements, as well as University and unit-specific policies and procedures.
- Understands basic advising practice and how it is related to some aspects of student development.
- Uses DegreeWorks with orientation students to document degree selection, course registration and college resources.
- Provide information about co-curricular opportunities (Co-op, Internships, Study Abroad, Graduate Studies, faculty-led research, etc.) and special services as per students' specific needs.
- Provide guidance and support in high-demand application process for students.
- Serve as a point-of-contact for degree support and enhancement activities that extend/augment the educational opportunities associated with engineering undergraduate degree programs.

- Attends staff meetings, professional development seminars, yearly UGA advising workshops, and other student support related meetings; serve on various campus committees; complete the Academic Advising Certificate Program.
- Represents the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural and Mechanical Engineering and the College of Engineering at on-campus recruitment events and related meetings.
