Shift Relief Operator

TerraPower, LLC. Is seeking two highly motivated Shift Relief Operators. One Shift Relief Operator will be dedicated to day shift, and the other to night shift. In this role, you will be responsible for covering the planned and unplanned PTO callouts of colleagues such as the IET Operators, I.E. Shift Operations Supervisor, Control Room Operator, and Field Operator. This position will also support the development and training of the Control Room Operators and Field Operators as well as scheduling of the operations team and maintenance planning.

This effort will support the Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) program and the operation of the MCFR IET is a critical step in the testing and development of the first reactor to be fueled by molten chloride salts. Your role will include interfacing with a team of scientists and engineers internally and externally to TerraPower. Candidates must have extensive plant operations and supervisory experience. This position will report to the Lab Operations Director.

Responsibilities

* Covering shift operators planned and unplanned PTO.

* Will be required to work weekends and nights when needed.

* Temporarily supervise and train operators (Control Room Operator and Field/Utility Operator) on crew, including providing feedback, and ongoing coaching while working closely with the TerraPower training department when filling in for managers of people.

* Coordinate/Plan IET Maintenance Phases.

* Develop and/or update Operator schedules.

* Participate in management meetings when backing up supervisor shifts.

* Develop and/or review Operating Procedures.

* Develop Operator Training Materials under guidance of Test Lead.

* Keep Shift Log of Operations.

* Review and train on Lessons Learned.

* Operate SCADA/HMI/Control Boards, high temperature pilot systems, pumps, valves, heaters blowers, compressors.

* Respond to alarms and problems within the plant and takes corrective measures.

* Monitor and control pressures, temperatures, flow rates, and levels to efficiently achieve desired operating results and ensure proper operation of equipment under current process conditions such as Start/Stop/Rate adjustment of equipment.

* Regulate and shut down equipment if necessary.

* Troubleshoot equipment, electrical and instrumentation issues.

* Periodically makes rounds of the plant to visually check equipment to see that it is operating properly.

* Follow standard operating and emergency procedures until trouble can be corrected.

* Perform energy isolation lockout/tagout procedures (LOTO).

* Make multiple repeat batches of Purified Salt.

* Work various shifts, evening, weekends, holidays, overtime, on-call as required.

* Physically perform assigned duties and essential functions of the position.

* Independently plan and carry out the work in accordance with established operating methods and procedures.

* Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices in order to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.

* Actively participate in safety programs, initiatives, and Corrective Action Program.

Work Schedule

The Shift Relief Operator's schedule will be Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, when not providing relief. The day shift relief operator will work strictly days and the night shift relief operator will work strictly nights. The day shift relief operator start time will be the same as the day shift operations crew (currently planned as 0600). The night shift relief operator start time will be the same as the night shift operations crew (currently planned as 1800). During planned vacation coverage, the relief operator will work 12-hour shifts to cover the vacancy. Coverage of planned vacation time will result in weekend coverage. When last minute unplanned PTO call outs occur Monday through Friday, the relief operator will be required to cover the 12 hour shift vacancy. Weekend unplanned PTO will not be covered as long as a minimum of two personnel are on shift. Due to the amount of PTO of each operator, it is expected that each relief operator will spend ~50% of their time covering 12 hour shift vacancies. Candidates for this position must have full understanding of the flexibility of schedule requirements associated with the position. When serving as a relief operator the work week may be more than 40 hours per week.

Key Qualifications and Skills

* High school diploma or GED is required.

* Minimum of five years of experience in industrial plant operations (chemical, boiler, refinery, etc.); preference for ten years of experience.

* Minimum of three years of experience in shift operations supervision (chemical, boiler, refinery, etc.) preferred.

* Relative military service may substitute for industrial plant experience.

* Must have competent knowledge and abilities to perform the duties of the IET Shift Operations Supervisor.

* Must have competent knowledge and abilities to perform the duties of the IET Control Room Operator.

* Must have competent knowledge and abilities to perform the duties of the IET Field Operator.

* Demonstrate Math Proficiency with understanding of basic algebra, fractions/percentages, unit conversion.

* Personal computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheets) and other software utilized by the company including Control System Interfaces.

* Strong Interpersonal abilities to support team philosophy and strategy.

* Understanding of electrical hazards and safety.

* Ability to perform and record results of laboratory tests accurately and by required deadlines.

* Read and understand engineered drawings.

* Read meters and gauges correctly.

* Knowledge of tubing and tubing connections.

* Must possess or have the ability to possess within six months of hire date, first aid and CPR certifications.

* The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

Salary Range Level 9: $45.87 - $68.81

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 - 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary band. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual's qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
