Under the direction of the Chief of Interventional (IR) Radiology, the IR Advanced Practice Provider (APP)'s main responsibility will be to see patients pre- and post-procedurally in the outpatient IR clinic. In the clinic setting, the APP will see patients independently and/or in conjunction with the attending IR MDs for new patient consultations and clinical follow-up visits. Duties will include but are not limited to: writing notes, entering electronic orders, and scheduling procedures. In addition, the APP will maintain appropriate forms and develop relevant protocols for the clinic. With the introduction of procedures in the outpatient clinic, the APP will also perform and/or assist with procedures that include but are not limited to: ultrasound-guided biopsies (e.g., thyroid, lymph node), image-guided peripheral vascular access, central vascular access removal, removal and/or exchange of gastrostomy tubes and T-fasteners, paracenteses, thoracenteses, and treatment of superficial venous disease. When not in the outpatient clinic, the APP will serve as a designated expert for assessing more complex IR cases and performing procedures in the hospital that require advanced skills and knowledge, including but not limited to ultrasound-guided biopsies, image-guide peripheral vascular access, central vascular access removal, removal and exchange of gastrostomy tube and T-fasteners, paracentesis, and thoracentesis. The APP may also schedule and conduct clinical consultations for interventional procedures, obtain and interpret medical histories, perform initial and periodic physical exams, assess test results and other measurements, prescribe medications and supportive therapies, and provide or mediate patient follow-up. The APP will also be expected to perform daily rounds on hospitalized patients who have had IR procedures; assess catheters and drains that may be in place; assess laboratory findings including blood tests, non-invasive peripheral vascular studies, ultrasounds, MRI, CT scans and X-rays; review physical examination findings, laboratory and imaging findings and make plans for procedures with the interventional radiologists; organize and order follow-up imaging and laboratory studies and clinic visits on patients who have had procedures and require continuity of care; communicate clinical findings to interventional radiologists, nurses and interventional radiology technologists; communicate plans for procedures with the interventional nurses and technical staff; plan, implement, and evaluate health care treatments; provide initial triage and delegation of IR referrals and clinical inquiries from patients, families, and providers; liaison and coordinate care with referring teams; and bill appropriately for IR encounters. The APP may utilize critical thinking skills to individualize patient care in order to manage illness, promote well-being, and foster rehabilitative disease preventative lifestyle choices; identify and solve complex clinical IR problems; collaborate with other UCSD and community health care providers; prepare cases to the relevant IR attending and consulting physicians, and train staff and study coordinators to meet clinical standard of practice. Prepare and maintain files in anticipation of internal, TJC, sponsor, or FDA audits. Recruit and schedule clinical trials subjects, collect study data, establish and maintain research protocols, and coordinate all follow-up procedures. The APP will oversee regulatory compliance and quality assurance for industry studies and will serve as primary resource for clinic staff. Plan and present in-services to staff and/or community groups. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $158,187 - $221,370 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $75.76 - $106.02 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
