Robert J. Manning Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship

General Summary of position:

The Marketing, Entrepreneurship & Innovation (MEI) Department at the Robert J. Manning School of Business, University of Massachusetts Lowell, invites applications for the Robert J. Manning Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship. We invite applications from tenured full professors or advanced associate professors in AACSB-accredited schools. Appointment start date is open.

The ideal candidate will have a nationally recognized research profile in any area of Entrepreneurship. They should also demonstrate excellence in teaching and service within their academic community. Preferred candidates will have an active engagement with regional or national entrepreneurial ecosystem stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a high-quality research agenda, mentor Ph.D. students, and engage in university entrepreneurial initiatives. They should work collegially and collaborate effectively with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, alumni, and broader community stakeholders. Continuation of external service to the profession is required.

The initial appointment is for five years, renewable for additional three-year terms without limit, subject to successful review. The Endowed Chair receives a one-month summer salary annually, a significant research fund, and access to Ph.D. research assistance and administrative support. Teaching responsibilities include three courses per academic year, with at least one at the undergraduate level.

The Manning School of Business, hosting over 3,750 students, features cutting-edge facilities and holds AACSB International accreditation. UMass Lowell, located just 30 miles northwest of Boston, is the second-largest public university in Massachusetts, serving over 18,000 students. The university and the Manning School actively contribute to the regional entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem, including the Merrimack Valley and the greater Boston area, highlighted by initiatives like the M2D2 life science incubator, the DifferenceMaker program, the Jack M. Wilson Center for Entrepreneurship, and the Global Entrepreneurship Exchange program. The MEI Department offers programs at the undergraduate, master's, and Ph.D. levels with sixteen full-time faculty members.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):



  • Tenured Full or Associate Professor with a Ph.D. in a related discipline from an AACSB-accredited school.
  • Demonstrated ongoing research with a record of publications in top-tier journals in entrepreneurship.
  • Proven teaching effectiveness.
  • Active engagement with regional or national entrepreneurship organizations.
  • Commitment to experiential and career-connected learning.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student and faculty groups.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in supervising and advising doctoral students.
  • Strong commitment to service, both internal and external.
  • Involvement in entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
