Job Summary

Under direction of Supervisor, provide driving for the Davis/Berkeley Shuttle and any other trips as appropriate for UC Davis. Trips will be bid or assigned to the employee and will receive general guidelines for maintenance of equipment. Provide great customer service, safe and clean equipment, and promote Fleet Services in a positive manner.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and/or educational degree if required of the position.

  • Current Class B driver's license is required with passenger endorsement and up to date medical examiner's certificate (Class A is acceptable but is not required).
  • Experience driving buses with air brakes, hydraulic brakes, and recognizing safety and mechanical problems.
  • Skill to interpret and understand policy and procedures relating to the University and driving and safety laws.
  • Skill to use Microsoft Outlook, on-line Time Reporting systems, and complete forms and logs both online and written.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively and diplomatically with people from diverse ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds, including students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
  • Customer Service skills to provide polite and friendly service Mathematical skills to add and subtract.
  • Skill to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Department Overview

UC Davis Fleet Services manages a fleet of vehicles for the UC Davis Campus in Northern California that are assigned and travel throughout the nation. There are approximately 870 fleet-owned vehicles with an acquisition value of over $20 million and another 600 department-owned vehicles, carts, and trailers maintained by Fleet Services. These vehicles are available to support teaching, research, administrative programs and all campus support programs.

Physical Demands

  • Body mobility to stoop, bend, lift and reach to perform loading and unloading duties.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Work long hours, up to 10 hours of driving time, 15 hours on duty.

Work Environment

  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of the Department of Transportation (DOT) Drug and Alcohol Testing program. Employee will be placed on the random testing pool list for drug and alcohol testing. This position is subject to completion of a Pre-Placement Medical Exam provided by Employee Health Services, at no charge to the applicant.
  • Must possess a valid State of California class A or B with passenger endorsement driver's license with no air brake restriction. Position will participate in DMV Pull Notice Program. Employee is personally responsible for following safety guidelines/procedures.
  • Work hours to be arranged which will be determined by customer and department needs and shift available. Restricted vacation during peak demands. Travel to and attend meetings, trainings, or conferences that may be several days and requiring overnight stays.
  • Work alternate work schedule and overtime to meet deadlines and operational needs with little to no notice.
  • Prior approval from supervisor of vacation with minimum notice of time equivalent to amount of time requested.
  • Proper use of sick leave.
