Job Summary

The anticipated duration of this assignment is about 6 months.

Under the general supervision of the CAO, provides consultation, analysis, advice and planning regarding Human Resource issues. Works with the Department Manager and Chair to perform classification, compensation, and organizational analysis. Provides strategic, tactical, and analytical support to the department of Pharm Chem regarding staffing, training, employee and labor relations, and performance management.

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced administrative operations professional to manage, plan and administer the operations of a small to mid-sized academic or non-academic department or organizational unit with limited scope. May report to a Chair, Director, or a higher level Administrative Operations professional or CAO. Perform short and long-term planning for the organization. May supervise staff or students. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

The position incumbent uses HR concepts as a seasoned, experienced professional to manage, plan, apply and administer organization policies and procedures to resolve the full range of HR-related issues in the department. The HR Analyst will liaise with the HR Service Center on all aspects of faculty, non-faculty academic, post-doctoral, and staff recruitment and advancement. The incumbent will coordinate with the HR Service Center on personnel searches, staff recruitment, performance evaluations, and merits and promotions for all academic and staff positions. The HR Analyst will work with the HR Service Center on departmental employee relations, training, staff development and compliance issues. The HR Analyst reports directly to the CAO and will also advise the Chair on HR matters.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Major in Psychology, Communications, Social Sciences, Business or equivalent
