Description

The School of Arts and Sciences at Waukesha County Technical College seeks an Academic Coach for the Computer Literacy Lab. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality academic coaching for students needing additional assistance in computer basic skills. Designed to enhance students' understanding of computer basics, and contribute to the students' overall academic achievements, this position provides coaching to students on a walk-in basis in an open lab setting.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide academic coaching services to assist students in understanding and mastering content, in the specific subject area of computer basic skills
  2. Assist students in developing effective computer basic skills and promote independent learning and self-efficacy
  3. Familiarize students with available educational resources, including but not limited to the library, online materials, and academic support services.
  4. Refer students to appropriate campus resources, such as academic advisors, career services, or counseling
  5. Provide communication and feedback to instructors and academic support staff as needed regarding student's progress, as well as common areas of difficulty for students
  6. Stay current with effective academic coaching techniques, computer basics software and programs specific discipline content, and pedagogical trends
  7. Provide assistance in training new coaches
  8. May assist with program recruitment efforts, such as semi-annual Open Houses events
  9. Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of computer literacy oat least a baccalaureate level
  • Understanding of pedagogy. Knowledge of working with students learning differences preferred. Proficiency in using educational technology and online resources for coaching sessions.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, both in one-on-one and group instruction situations
  • Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills - oral, written, technical and non-technical information, and listening
  • Strong customer service skills, working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students
  • Ability to work independently as part of a team and/or with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency with computer software applications such as Microsoft products, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations and/or publishing, learning management systems

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in specific discipline; Master's degree preferred.
  • Training and teaching experience in an educational setting required. Previous teaching experience required.
  • Current experience with Microsoft Office products
  • In evaluating candidates for this position, the College may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position

Hours
12-18 hours per week
Hours are Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This position is available immediately.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available.
