Summary of Position: Join our team in the College of Business at Ferris State University to shape future graphic designers, user experience/user interface (ux/ui) designers, and brand identity designers. Candidates will demonstrate: expertise in visual design, design principles, typography, and creative concept development; familiarity with design research methods and user-centered design principles; evidence of contemporary industry practice within the last 5 years; and effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students from diverse backgrounds.

This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis. This posting is being used for face to face and/or online instruction. However, the candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment.

The anticipated start date of this position is August of 2024 at the earliest and January of 2025 at the latest.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree in design, visual communication, interaction design, or a related field and 5 years of recent design industry experience within the last 10 years, or a master's degree in design or a related field, and 2 years of recent design industry experience within the last 5 years.
Required Work Experience: Evidence of contemporary industry practice within the last 5 years, Teaching experience at the college level or professional training/mentoring experience, ideally with online teaching platforms and delivery methods.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Master's degree (MA, MFA, MS, MDes, DMBA, MBA) in design or a closely related field is preferred, along with teaching experience at the college level or professional training/mentoring experience with online teaching platforms and delivery methods.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Incorporate design foundations, industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies into course content; Deliver engaging hands-on learning experiences that foster creativity, critical thinking, and technical proficiency; Enhance learning outcomes through regular assessment and collaboration with program faculty; Foster an inclusive and collaborative learning environment.

Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include but are not limited to: keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.

Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
