DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for keeping work areas clean and orderly as well as operating industrial maintenance equipment within a shop environment.This position requires a CDL and is bid based on seniority and business need

EQUIPMENT OPERATION

  • Operate forklift, mobile crane,trackmobile, shop tractor, and power hand tools

FUEL TRUCK DRIVER

  • Drivefuel tanker trucks on roadways and BNSF property tofuel locomotives where required

EQUIPMENT AND SHOP MAINTENANCE

  • Sand, fuel and clean locomotives

  • Clean and organize shop work area (sweep and clean work surfaces, store parts, empty and discard garbage)

  • Operate power-driven equipment such as a vacuum cleaner, electric broom, or steam cleaning gun

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Extreme all-weather conditions

  • Walk and perform work onuneven surfaces

SHIFTS/HOURS

  • Full-time (40 hours/week)

  • Subject to seniority and governed by union agreement

  • Mechanical shops operate 24 hours/day, 7 days/weekwith three 8-hour shifts including weekends, holidays, and overtime

TRAVEL

  • Minimal

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 21 years of age or older

  • Have a valid CDL, with test endorsements for combination vehicle, air brake, and HAZMAT or able to obtain one within 60 days of employment

  • Ability to report for duty at the designated work location

  • Able to work safely in the above working conditions

  • Able toworkthe above shift/hours

  • Ability to read, write and communicate (speak, hear and understand) English

  • Ability to lift and carry up to50pounds with or without assistance

  • Ability to visually distinguish among red, blue, green and yellow colors

  • Ability to discriminate and differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds (signals, alarms, etc.) in the work environment

  • Ability to use hands and use hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning and pulling

  • Ability toclimb ladders and on/off equipment

  • Ability to occasionallywork from various heights

  • Ability tobend, walk,standandsit occasionally with breaks

  • Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner
