Role Overview We are seeking an experienced and dedicated professional to fill the role of Director of Safety and Fleet Registration. This position will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of motor carrier fleet safety, driver qualification, regulatory compliance, and risk management. The position will also be responsible for the areas of fleet vehicle licensing, permitting and fuel tax reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fleet safety management and regulatory compliance, with a focus on promoting a culture of safety throughout an organization. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including those set forth by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Manage the driver qualification process, including screening, training, and certification of drivers to ensure they meet all regulatory and company requirements.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement preventive measures.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including legal, human resources, and operations, to develop and implement safety initiatives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including insurance carriers, regulatory agencies, and industry associations.
- Monitor and analyze safety and fleet performance metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement
- Prepare reports and presentations for senior management on safety and fleet activities.
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices in fleet safety management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation Management, or a related field, preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety and fleet management, in the transportation or logistics industry.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, including DOT regulations, OSHA standards, and industry best practices.
- Experienced in managing fleet vehicle qualification activities including vehicle legalization, credentialing, licensing, permitting and fleet tax calculation and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective safety and driver qualification programs.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and safety management software.
- Experience preparing and managing department budget.
