EEG Specialist II -Weekend option

The Long-Term Monitoring for Epilepsy (LTME) and ICU/cEEG Specialist II is an advanced level position in the epilepsy monitoring unit. The The LTME/ICU/cEEG Specialist II has passed examination by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists, Inc. (ABRET) and proven competence to obtain credentials in electroencephalography (R. EEG T.*) and long-term monitoring (CLTM*). The The LTME/ICU/cEEG Specialist II provides findings, results, and a descriptive analysis according to facility policy and procedures. The The LTME/ICU/cEEG Specialist II performs all core functions of the LTME Specialist I and may also perform the following responsibilities: Wada, PET, Ictal SPECT, and tilt table testing. Strong well-developed communication skills are essential for this position. The The LTME/ICU/cEEG Specialist II performs procedures appropriate to their competence and credentials held under general technical supervision3. 3General technical supervision requires that the long-term monitoring for epilepsy procedure is performed under technical supervision as detailed in the facility policy and procedure manual.

Thursday (every other week), Friday and Saturday nightshift position

Responsibilities

    The LTME/ICU/cEEG Specialist II understands EEG technology and its uses in the epilepsy monitoring unit as well as during epilepsy surgery
  • Performs EEG monitoring during: Wada, PET, ictal SPECT studies, tilt table testing, magnetoencephalograms (MEG)
  • Performs EEG recordings for brain and epilepsy surgery such as a corpus callosotomy, lesionectomy, hemispherectomy, or hemispherotomy; assists with electrode set up and implantation of invasive electrode recordings; assists in the design and montage creation for invasive electrode recordings
  • Assists with hook up of the patient with invasive electrodes upon their arrival to the epilepsy monitoring unit or intensive care unit
  • Assists with cortical mapping procedures in the operating room and/or in the long-term neuromonitoring unit or ICU
  • Recognizes clinically significant events and electroencephalographic and electrocorticographic patterns and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results**.
  • The LTME/ICU/cEEG Specialist II is a valuable member of the epilepsy monitoring unit team working closely and collaborating with nurses, physicians, and other medical staff caring for the patient.
  • The LTME/ICU/cEEG Specialist II assists in the training of the LTME Specialist I
  • Maintains continuing education requirements of ABRET for CLTM* and R. EEG T.* credentials by reviewing current literature and attending continuing education meetings and seminars
  • Completes any other related duties that are consistent with patient and technical care for this level
  • Provides direct technical supervision and indirect technical supervision to the LTME Specialist I as required.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education and Experience :

  • Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Program or a Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university is desired.
  • BLS certified
  • Credential in electroencephalography (R. EEG T.*).
  • Credential in long-term monitoring (CLTM*).
  • 3 or more years of experience in the neurodiagnostic field which includes 2 years experience in long-term monitoring for epilepsy.(Credentials in neurodiagnostics from other nations may also be considered as fulfillment of the credential requirements).

Minimum Physical Requirement:

  • Frequent walking
  • Sitting/standing
  • Reaching including above/below shoulder height
  • Some kneeling/crawling
  • Pulling/pushing >50 pounds
  • Carrying <50 pounds
  • Frequent bending /stooping/crouching/twisting and continuous repetitive movements
