This position is based out of either Feeding America's new office location in the heart of downtown Chicago or out of our Washington DC office. At Feeding America, we believe in offering a flexible work environment. Employees can be in the office an average of 2-3 days a week (when not travelling for work) and work from home on other days. Employees also have access to a 30-day "work anywhere" program during the course of each calendar year that can be combined with PTO and/or holidays.

The Opportunity The Manager, Foundations will advance the foundation fundraising efforts of Feeding America by leading, managing, and coordinating foundation relationships activities that aim to raise grant funds from private foundations to meet or exceed the organization's fundraising goals.

Salary: $67,000 - $85,000+ Based on Experience

Responsibilities:
  • Manages strategy, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for an assigned portfolio of foundation partners (current and prospective) and builds relationships with foundation program officers and establishes ongoing processes to advance grant revenue growth and meet team and individual revenue goals.
  • Responsible for meeting annual, personal fundraising targets in support of departmental fundraising and operating goals.
  • Collaborates with colleagues in Finance, Member Grants, Programs, Supply Chain, Government Relations and Marketing/Communications to develop customized and effective grant proposals, budgets, other grant application materials (e.g., letters of inquiry, concept papers, meeting presentations, discussion guides, etc.).
  • Manages and coordinates stewardship strategies to ensure effective execution of grant deliverables, including project management in partnership with cross-functional teams to monitor progress of grant deliverables, and coordination with Finance to ensure grant funds are being spent within grant time periods. Develops grant stewardship plans and writes reports, working with appropriate staff of Feeding America's national office and food bank network as well as other Foundation Relationships team members to complete these tasks.
  • Broadens donor relationships across Feeding America's portfolio of interests, especially with C-suite leadership engagement. Prepares memos, partnership updates and communications for Feeding America's network members and Executive Team, including the Chief Executive Officer, as needed.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with member food banks to help deepen donor engagement and link partnerships at the national and local level.
  • Identify and initiate thought partnerships between Feeding America programmatic teams (aligned with Communications and External Affairs) with organizations focused on hunger, race equity, health, climate change, and other sectors where there are clearly identified synergies with Feeding America's mission and strategic goals. Partners may include other non-profits, corporations, academia, community-based organizations and educational institutions.
  • Perform research on private foundations to evaluate and qualify prospects to support Feeding America's institutional priorities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date files and database records for all assigned foundation donors/prospects.
  • Actively participate in Foundations team planning and provide input and support on cultivation/solicitation strategies and activities.
  • Develop deep knowledge and understanding of Feeding America's institutional history, programs, and funding priorities.
  • Participate in cross-functional committee work and special projects as a representative of the Foundation team and serve as a subject matter expert for the FANO community.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • 5 years of fundraising experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Strong track record of fundraising with institutional foundation donors or partners, including a history of meeting or exceeding personal revenue goals and experience stewarding large, complex donations and grants.
  • Creative problem solver and collaborative leader who is willing to both lead and provide hands-on support to team-based fundraising efforts
  • Detail orientation, strong organizational and project management skills including ability to develop project plans, meet deadlines, and analyze and report progress against goals and business objectives. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
