Civil Site Design Project Engineer

Benesch is seeking a Civil Site Project Engineer to join our growing Civil Site and Land Development team in Franklin or Nashville, Tennessee. In this role, you will support the design and delivery of civil site and land development projects while working closely with project managers, senior engineers, designers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams. This is an opportunity to apply your engineering education and experience to real-world projects while developing the technical, project management, and client-facing skills needed to grow your career.

The ideal candidate is a motivated civil engineer who is eager to take on responsibility, solve technical challenges, and develop into a well-rounded project engineer. You will have opportunities to work across a variety of projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, and build the skills needed to take on increasing project ownership.



Location

This position offers a hybrid work schedule and can be based out of either our Franklin or Nashville, Tennessee office.



The Impact You Will Have

  • Perform engineering analysis, calculations, and design for civil site and land development projects.
  • Develop and review site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility, and erosion control designs.
  • Prepare engineering plans, specifications, technical reports, calculations, and construction documents.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering software to develop project designs and deliverables.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, designers, surveyors, architects, contractors, and other disciplines.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, budgets, and resource needs.
  • Support the preparation of project scopes, proposals, fee estimates, and technical approaches.
  • Participate in client meetings, project coordination meetings, site visits, and construction-related activities.
  • Assist with construction administration, including responding to contractor questions, reviewing submittals, and providing technical support.
  • Apply applicable engineering standards, codes, regulations, and permitting requirements to project designs.
  • Review project deliverables for accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Identify technical issues and work with senior staff to develop effective design solutions.
  • Communicate technical information clearly with project team members and clients.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and deliverables while developing greater responsibility throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Continue developing technical and professional skills through mentorship, project experience, and professional development opportunities.
  • Represent Benesch at industry events, professional organizations, networking events, and other business development opportunities.


What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) required.
  • 4+ years of civil engineering experience, preferably in site development, land development, municipal engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with civil site design, grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater management, or related engineering work.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Understanding of civil engineering principles, design standards, codes, and permitting requirements.
  • Experience preparing engineering plans, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with project teams, clients, and other disciplines.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
