Principal Engineer - Innovation and HVAC System Performance Expert - Plymouth, MN - Hybrid

Daikin Applied is seeking a Principal Engineer - Innovation and HVAC System Performance Expert who will own the New Technology Introduction Portfolio. This person is a technical leader that manages an Innovation Portfolio and also leads a small number of technical projects (product features development and capability development) as a working technical leader. Ideally, most of the development will lead to a product/feature and add to knowledge in terms of Models, Components Characterization and Architecture Boundaries (pareto frontier).

What you will do:



  • Deliver


    • Own and manage Innovation Portfolio of New Development product features and capabilities. Product features are centered in optimal design solutions, system performance and HVAC/Cooling applications, Air Flow, and IAQ - Internal Air Quality
    • Direct team activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop Models and test procedures
    • Resolve problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts - ideally Virtual Product Development using simulation to virtually verify & validate requirements
    • Recognizes and predicts how variance affects our models and our design. When compared to actual sampling and testing, drive reduction of the uncertainty of our models by using a large inference space (noise and design factors). (Physical testing and mathematical-physical models correlation)



  • Strategy


    • Develop strategies to simplify or speed up our Technology Development: simulation, planned experimentation and agile tech project leadership
    • Drive technology discussion through the planning process
    • Actively create and maintain relationships to selected world-class universities by developing the R&D collaboration
    • Coach & Mentoring (Talent Pipeline): develop the organization

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 14+ years of experience or a Master's Degree with 7+ years of experience or a PhD with 5+ years of experience
  • DFSS: Design for Six Sigma - Master Black Belt or Black Belt (minimum)
  • Model-based Systems engineering knowledge and experience: system-level decomposition & integration (14 tech processes)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • HVAC or Cooling Systems
  • Math and analytical capability to emulate the physics
  • Optimization techniques (multi-objective attribute analysis, numerical methods, finite element algorithms)
  • Software: VapCyc, CoilDesigner, Python, Ansys, LS Dyna, Dymola, mathcad, Simulink
  • Experience with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence application
  • Subsystems level development experience
