The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry is one of only two independent child and adolescent psychiatry departments within an academic medical center in the nation. The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Bellevue Hospital Center is seeking a part-time Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our Child Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (C-CPEP) at Bellevue Hospital. Responsibilities include:



  • Assess and treat (or provide supervision of such assessment and treatment performed by child psychiatry fellows and other trainees) of emergency evaluation patients, emergency psychiatric consults in the PES (or elsewhere in the hospital after hours), patients admitted to the POU, and patients receiving medication management in the Crisis Clinic;
  • Medical management as appropriate including ordering of lab work, radiological exams and other clinical testing as appropriate, and consultation/collaboration with the pediatrics team and other consultation services as clinically indicated;
  • Review clinical documentation sent from other hospitals and accept appropriate transfers if beds are available. Assess and participate in the admission process of direct admit transfers from outside hospitals.
  • Crisis management, including assessment of acutely agitated and dangerous patients, ordering of IM medications and restraints when clinically necessary with appropriate debriefing and documentation; and
  • Teach and supervise child psychiatry fellows, general psychiatry residents and other trainees, as well as supervise, psychiatric Nurse Practitioners working in the C-CPEP.


Effort: .60 FTE

Minimum Salary: $144,000

Maximum Salary: $150,000
