Description

Participate as a full-time faculty member in departmental and medical school activities as a clinician-educator. The incumbent has a major commitment to the provision, advancement and promotion of excellence in clinical care and teaching/educational activities, and makes scholarly contributions to the division of endocrinology and department of medicine.


Examples of Duties

I. Administrative (includes 5% academic consideration time) 5%

A. Assume divisional and departmental administrative responsibility as directed by the Division Chief.
B. Academic consideration time. (.05 FTE)

II. Teaching 25%

The SIU Department of Medicine is committed to delivering the highest quality medical education across the learning continuum (e.g., medical school to residency to continuing education and faculty development).

A. Clinical Teaching (7.5% - included in Service time)

All full-time faculty members are expected to teach and mentor within the context of provision of clinical care. Faculty members will supervise fellows, residents, and medical students during ambulatory and hospital patient encounters.
B. Didactic Teaching (7.5%) In addition to teaching within the context of patient care, all faculty members are expected to engage in didactic instruction.
1. Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, and conferences for fellows, residents, medical students, and other learners in the Department of Medicine and other departments.
2. Provide periodic seminars/educational sessions for the division of endocrinology.
3. Prepare conferences for the Department of Medicine.
4. Provide lectures and conferences at regional hospitals in Central and Southern Illinois.

III. Service (includes 7.5% Clinical Teaching effort) 70%

A. Professional Services
1. Complete inpatient and outpatient consultations requested by full-time SIU clinical faculty, house staff and community physicians.
2. Provide outreach to Pinckneyville Community Hospital District via telehealth.
3. Develop and maintain professional practice in accordance with departmental policy.
4. A clinical full time equivalent (CFTE) of 77.5% and includes 7.5% clinical teaching. Based on Vizient 50th benchmarks and the calculated clinical FTE, achieve target of 4,080 RVUs per year.
B. University, Hospital and Regional Services
1. Participate in University, SIU Healthcare, and hospital committees as requested


Qualifications

  1. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  2. Graduate of accredited medical school program.
  3. Graduate of formal specialty training program in Endocrinology.
  4. Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine or eligible for such.
  5. Diplomate of the American Board of Endocrinology or eligible for such.
  6. Licensed to practice in the State of Illinois or eligible for such certification.
  7. Experience providing services to multicultural populations.
  8. Experience dealing with underrepresented minority populations.
