This position providesonsite interpreting services for a student who is deaf in the classroom, school or school-sponsored activities (sports, theater, clubs).We have positions in districts throughout the state of Vermont.
JOB DESCRIPTION: KNOWLEDGE/SPECIAL SKILLS: Fluency in English and American Sign Language Understands and agrees to follow confidentiality rules and a Code of Ethics, such as the RID Code of Professional Conduct. This position requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, a high level ofprofessionalism, and the ability to exercise sound discretion in the moment to serve the needs of the students and schools as they arise. Knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to bridge ethnic values, cultural beliefs and behaviors within educational systems. Ability to work with diverse populations from various cultural/economic backgrounds and age groups. EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree preferred or High School Diploma or Equivalent, with minimum 2 years relevant college or professional training or equivalent experience required or Native ASL user. Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 4.0 or higher preferred or credentialed by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). Successful completion of a formal program in American Sign Language / English interpreting, preferred. EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years of formal educational/medical interpreting, with demonstrated knowledge of educational specialties. WHY UVM HEALTH NETWORK (UVMHN)?
