Job Description

Job Title: Trailer Spotter

Department: Transportation Location: Williamsport, MD Schedule: Will discuss during interview

Supervision:



  • Reports to Assistant Transportation Manager
  • Executes work under direction or established procedures 90% of the time.
  • Works independently, setting priorities and work schedule 10% of the time.


Essential Duties:



  • Moving trailers between pads, doors and buildings on a timely manner.


  • Sliding tandems to meet state bridge laws.


  • Weighing outbound and finished trailers accurately.


  • Getting trailer reloaded when trailer is overweight. (Check with Ops Clerk)


  • Checking trailers. Ensure all trailers are secure (locked) in yard. (Dot and 3rd party)


  • Inspects trailer registration, inspections and other documentation. Inspect trailer suspension, sliding tandem rails and all pins out, frame and cross members for structural integrity, brakes and lights.


  • Inspecting spotter tractors and fuel truck, basic maintenance and fueling. (Fill out inspection sheet daily)


  • Checking refrigerator unit operation.


  • Performing yard, trailer and dock check.


  • Completing a yard tracking sheet to be turned in after each shift.


  • Performing basic communications, radio and personal.


  • Trailer washouts when needed.


  • Applies lean thinking and tools to identify and eliminate waste in all areas of this position.



Working Conditions:



  • Will work outdoors all year round.


Compensation:



  • $20-$22 hour to start
  • $1.50 hour night differential
  • Performance Bonuses
  • *Additional $1.00 hour differential for running loads for dispatch twice a month. (optional)




Job Requirements

Requirements:



  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • CDL certification with HAZMAT and Tanker Endorsements (DTI will help in providing education opportunities if requirements are met.)
  • Must meet the Department of Transportation physical and drug screening requirements. Including sufficient vision and hearing necessary to operate powered equipment safely.
  • Safe driving record
  • Must be able to get in and out of a truck as many as 120 a shift or more
  • Must lift up to 60 lbs, with average of 16 to 25 lbs.
