Job Description Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient operation of the facility by Operating Personnel assigned to his/her team. This position works a rotating shift schedule that rotates between day and night shift(s) on a regular rotation.

Job Description

1. Directs shift operating personnel in assigned area to meet operating needs. Coordinate operations within area of responsibility and with operations in other areas of the facility.

2. Provide shift vacation, and other assigned relief coverage.

3. Communicate with shift personnel to assure effective two-way communication occurs between management and employees.

4. Implement all Elementis safety management controls, programs, and policies. Enforces safety and housekeeping standards for area to maintain plant standards.

5. Ensure subordinate's activities follow all Federal, State and Local laws, regulations, and environmental operating permits (OSHA, EPA, EEO, NPDES, etc).

6. Plan and implement operational training of peers and subordinates.

7. Assure all regulatory and refresher training (for shift employees) is completed according to published plans and schedules.

8. Responsible for completing review/sign-off of employee training programs.

9. Coordinates annual reviews of assigned procedures/policies, including operating manuals, ensuring appropriate accuracy, etc.

10. Participates in the Site HSE Committee and all other HSE programs.

11. Responsible for area operations during off-hours. Advises all parties, superiors, peers, and subordinates, on all changes or situations that influence safety, the environment, or production.

12. Promotes performance to all employees. Specifies to the operator acceptable work habits and if substandard, retrains, corrects or instigates disciplinary action.

13. Motivates all employees to perform above standard work by recognizing and rewarding above standard performance and safety habits and informing superiors with a letter of praise if appropriate.

14. Maintains qualifications and participates in shift emergencies. Performs emergency first aid, CPR, fire protection and HAZMAT response. Counsels subordinates or peers where qualified or recommends sources of help.

15. Must be an effective communicator regarding plant operational conditions.

16. Responsible for finding coverage for operators who will not be to work on their regular shift time due to sickness, accidents, family emergency, etc.

17. Responsible for maintenance of subordinate's records (attendance, etc)

18. Responsible for approving and verifying timecards, and assists Operations Manager with payroll functions.

19. Responsible for implementing disciplinary actions as defined by the Plant Rules, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, or other violations of plant or company policies.

20. Ensure completion of daily Title V inspections. Track and notify HSE department or any deviations during the inspection(s).

21. Leads and assists with troubleshooting issues including but not limited to HSE, downtime or output reduction events, quality failures, or Key Performance Indicator (KPI) deviations.

Additional Job Description

Experience / Skill Requirements:

1. 2+ years supervisory experience in a specialty chemical plant

2. Associate degree or higher in chemical engineering, processing, technology, or other related field is preferred.

3. Thorough understanding and adherence to safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations

4. Strong communication skills

5. Proficient user of computer software including Microsoft Suite, ERP Software, and DCS systems.

6. Experience in a union environment.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to pass a respirator medical clearance examination and respirator fit test to wear respirator for certain tasks, even able to wear a respirator during strenuous physical activity.

2. Ability to meet the requirements of hearing conservation program.

3. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, climb, and regularly kneel, squat, bend, stoop, twist, and reach overhead with repetitive motions.

4. Ability to lift and/or carry up to 55 pounds.

5. Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required.
