The Substrate Directory team owns the directory service that provides user access to Substrate and inter-machine communication within the Substrate. We work closely with Azure Active Directory to provide directory functionality to our partners and users. We are starting the journey of replacing technology, underpinning much of our service. You will be a Key Contributor on the team who will own the implementation and full lifecycle of the solutions in C#. ResponsibilitiesThis Principal Software Engineer opportunity will allow you to make a broad positive impact that will include building appealing developer experiences, solving complex algorithmic problems, forging real-time troubleshooting tools via complex data models, streamlining our monitoring systems, evolving our metrics to enable large scale performance optimizations, or even enabling intricate business/engineering processes. As an engineer, you will be responsible for implementing features towards a wide variety of business applications and services within Office 365 products portfolio as well as ensuring they are done to meet rigorous quality standards with the result being software that is used by individuals and businesses throughout the world. As the Principal Software Engineeron the Substrate Directory team, you will be responsible for: Partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios. Leads efforts and discussions for the architecture of aspects of products/solutions (e.g., design, cost). Creates proposals for architecture and design documents and leads testing of hypotheses and proposed solutions. Leads by example and mentors' others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products. Leads efforts to optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI). Identifies best practices and coding patterns and provides deep expertise in the coding and validation strategy. Leads efforts for creation and conducting of experimentation to determine the effectiveness of changes, monitors developments for prototyping and testing products, interprets results, and decides on next steps or ship decision from results. Holds accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and mentors' other engineers across products/solutions, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions. Applies, extrapolates, and identifies best practices and shares information with other engineers to reliably build code that is based on well-established methods while also applying best practices for new code development. Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers. Collaborate on the design of the overall services with a focus on service reliability and automated troubleshooting.
