JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The College of Engineering, Graduate Program in Acoustics at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to work under the direction of Director Andrew Barnard to help launch his laboratory, focused on noise control, transducers, and sensing.

Education and Experience:

The position requires a Ph.D., preferably in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.

The scholar will primarily conduct research in one or more of the following areas:

1) non-linear active noise control algorithms applied to carbon nanotube loudspeakers;

2) machine learning and artificial intelligence as applied to acoustic classification, localization, and tracking; and

3) developing novel signal processing algorithms for visualization of large underwater acoustic data sets

Preferred candidates should have experience in one or more of the three topic areas and have skills in experimental measurements, digital signal processing, acoustics and noise control, non-linear control systems, or machine learning. The successful candidate will play a critical role in starting a new research lab from the ground up, writing research proposals, publication of results, and supervising graduate students. Good communication, teamwork, and leadership skills are required to work in a collaborative, diverse, and inclusive environment.
