JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The School of Humanities at Penn State Harrisburgis seeking applicants for part-time lecturer appointments for the 2024-2025 Academic Year to teach undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses.

We are seeking applicants with teaching experience in the following subjects:
  • English Composition
  • American Studies
  • German
  • Humanities
  • Communication
  • Journalism
  • Communication Arts and Sciences (CAS)

Appointments will be for part-time adjunct facultywithout benefits, and no guarantee of renewal. Teaching assignments may require teaching day or evening classes, as needed.Assigned courses are subject to cancellation for low enrollment before the semester begins.

Job Duties
  • Part-time instructors typically plan and teach one to three courses per semester on campus(1-9 credits). Nine credits is the maximum allowed for adjunct instructors.
  • Successful candidates must be able to work effectively with diverse populations and audiences.

  • Follow best practices for teaching.

  • Hold at least one office hour per three credits taught.

  • Grade student work.

  • Support First-Year Seminar Events

  • Submit student progress reports through Starfish.

  • Respond to administration and student emails.

  • Use the Penn State learning management system (Canvas).

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Master's Degreeor higher or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Must have completed an MA, MFA, or M.S. in a field related to the discipline is required and experience teaching at the post-secondary level is preferred.A doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in a field related to the discipline taught is preferred.
  • Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is desired.
