JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The laboratory of Manuel Llinas at The Pennsylvania State University seeks postdoctoral scholarsto work on projects in both malaria parasite metabolism and transcriptional regulation ofPlasmodium falciparumdevelopment. Metabolism projects will use mass spectrometry-based metabolomics to explore antimalarial drug responses, lipoate scavenging and lipoate metabolism, genotype/metabolite associations in genetic crosses, and the metabolism of antimalarial drug resistance. Projects related with transcriptional regulation will focus on the role of ApiAP2 proteins in parasite development, single-cell transcriptional responses to parasite perturbations, and the role of liquid-liquid phase condensation in transcription hubs.Candidates with strong track records of accomplishment in any of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: transcriptional regulation, RNA metabolism, nucleosome biology, metabolism, metabolomics, or mass spectrometry.

Education and Experience

This position requires a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree or higher in a scientific discipline. A strong background in parasitology is desirable, but not necessary. The candidate will be expected to lead their own individual projects as well as contributing to collaborative research efforts. Exceptional opportunities are available for highly motivated candidates who have recently received their Ph.D. and have a strong publication record, regardless of their specific area of expertise.

Dr. Llinas is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Department of Chemistry, and a member of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences where he is the co-director of the Center for Malaria Research and participates in the Center for Infectious Disease Dynamic and the Center for Eukaryotic Gene Regulation.

This is a term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
