Metrology Engineer

What this job involves: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Metrology Engineer to join our life sciences company. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate calibration and qualification of analytical instruments in compliance with industry standards and company SOPs.

What your day-to-day will look like:
Prepare detailed and accurate documentation of maintenance, calibration, and qualifications in compliance with Client's SOPs and industry standards.
Keep Supervisor and, if necessary, Director informed of needs and priorities within the group to ensure successful outcomes and task completion.
Conduct peer reviews of analytical instrument calibrations and qualifications.
Drive the improvement of departmental procedures and associated documentation by writing and revising SOPs.
Review VCBs (Validation Control Binders) daily and record raw data for KPIs and metrics.
Participate in the new instrument process, vendor management process, database management, and audits.
May calibrate instruments or provide assistance to junior Metrologists in troubleshooting.
Act as backup support in the event of a lapse of coverage in the Metrology department.
May be required to work overtime.
May be requested to travel for services, parts, and other related tasks.
Perform any other duties assigned as needed.

Physical Job Requirements:
Physical ability to sit, stand, walk regularly, and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
Specific vision requirements for reading written documents and using computer monitor screens frequently.
May be required to support instrument shipping and receiving, which may involve packing, boxing, labeling, and transporting packages of instruments from shipping facilities.
Comfortability working at heights exceeding 6 feet.
May need to fulfill requirements for motorized vehicle operation or use of a respirator according to company regulations.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, Dayshift

Desired or Preferred Experience and Technical Skills:
Experience: 4+ years of experience in a GLP/GMP environment, with previous laboratory experience preferred.

Required Skills and Experience
Education: Minimum of an Associate's or Bachelor's degree (preferably Master's) in Chemistry or a related scientific field.
Strong understanding of analytical instrumentation, including chromatographic systems and spectrophotometers.
Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), quality management systems (QMS), and continuous improvement/process improvement methodologies.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Deep knowledge of Metrology principles, gained through hands-on experience, with the ability to perform calibration tasks effectively.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to provide assistance to others with diverse needs.
Familiarity with basic GLP/GMP policies and guidelines, and an understanding of how their role impacts compliance.
Proficiency in various computer software, including Documentum, TrackWise, CalMan, Crystal Reports, and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, Publisher, etc.).
Effective communication skills with other departments and vendors.
Recognized as a technical resource for routine issues within a defined scope.
Proactively keeps the manager informed about the status of work.
Ability to work effectively and provide excellent customer service in a laboratory team setting.
