    Diagnostic Medical Physics or the American board of medical Physics (ABMP) equivalent in Diagnostic Imaging Physics required upon hire

Job Description:

Ensures quality and safety of diagnostic and interventional imaging equipment. Supports the Image Quality Assurance Program and the Radiation Protection Program.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Contributes to the Diagnostic Physics department as directed by the Lead Physicist.
2. Supports compliance of all state and federal regulating and accrediting bodies.
3. Assists in the acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment.
4. Supports the implementation of new technology and techniques.
5. Conducts and/or assists with performance evaluation of imaging equipment used in (but not limited to): bone densitometry, dental x-ray, radiography, ultrasound, mammography, fluoroscopy, computed tomography, magnetic resonance, and nuclear medicine/positron emission tomography.
6. Supports all aspects of departmental radiation safety including personnel exposure monitoring, shipping, receiving and inventory of radioactive material as outlined by regulatory agencies.
7. Assists with shielding evaluations, calculations, and radiation surveys.
8. Assists with patient or personnel radiation exposure, radiation risk assessment, and monitoring.
9. Facilitates troubleshooting by working collaboratively with biomedical engineers as necessary.
10. Works with Senior and/or Lead Physicists to provide diagnostic physics services on a contractual basis to affiliated healthcare organizations.
11. Participates in creating and maintaining educational material related to the physics of medical imaging.
12. Assists with the radiation safety aspects of Y-90 radioembolization procedures.
13. Provides patient radiation safety consults for radiopharmaceutical therapies.
14. Supports the Magnetic Resonance Safety program and corresponding team.
15. Assists with the development, maintenance, and optimization of imaging protocols.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Master's degree in medical physics or a related field

DESIRED

Doctorate or PhD in Medical Physics or a related field.

Work Experience:

REQUIRED

1-2 years of experience as an ABR (or equivalent) certified physicist

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED

American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in Diagnostic Radiological Physics required within 2 years of start date
