About the Department |
The Data Science Academy is the first of several NC State Academies, which are true university-wide efforts involving all 10 colleges. The Data Science Academy's goal is to network and catalyze data science across all three pillars of the university's land-grant mission: education, research and service to the state of North Carolina. At NC State, data science is for everyone.
The Data Science Academy offers 1-credit project-based courses and customized non-credit courses on a variety of topics grounded in our
ADAPT course model (All Campus Data Science Accessible Project-based Teaching and Learning). We seek instructors from industry, government and academia who are excited about broadening participation in data science and welcoming learners from many disciplines. |
Essential Job Duties |
The successful candidate(s) will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Data Science according to the Data Science Academy's need and the applicant's knowledge, skills, and ability. Opportunities are also available to teach professional, customized, and continuing education Data at Work courses.
Our courses attract undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff from across the university as well as learners outside of the university. We have permanent and special topics courses at the 200 level (no prerequisites), 400 level (skills-based prerequisites, such as particular programming concepts) and graduate level courses at the 500 level. Instructors will join a professional teaching community that meets twice monthly to discuss data science teaching and learning research and practice.
The for-credit courses meet for 50 minutes once a week for a semester and can be delivered in person or online. Data at Work (not-for-credit) courses have a customized schedule.

- Introduction to Data Visualization,
- Data Communication,
- Data Science for Social Good,
- Introduction to Data Science for Cybersecurity
- Data Wrangling and Web Scraping,
- Data Internships Preparation for Social Impact
- Exploring Machine Learning
Appointments will be for one or two semesters with the possibility of renewal.
Note that this position is only for teaching a few (often just 1) credits, not full-time. |
