Essential Job Duties
We are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Mechanic to join our dynamic team. The primary purpose of this role is to expertly maintain, repair, and operate heating, cooling, steam/hot water boilers, and boiler auxiliary equipment, all falling under the HVAC category. In addition, this position involves performing electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance within our service zone. Key responsibilities and duties include but not limited to:


  • Maintain, repair, and install plumbing systems and associated equipment/fixtures, including cutting, threading, assembling, and installing pipe; connecting valves, caulking joints, and testing jobs; and installing gas, water, and sanitary fixtures/equipment with their supports, hangers, and foundations
  • Perform journey-level work up to 600 vac in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of secondary electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures, including conduit wire, electrical panels, breakers, switch gear, magnetic starters, disconnects, motors, light fixtures, ballasts, switches, and receptacles

  • Correct and repair control system faults, adjust or replace temperature controls, regulators, humidity controllers, and sensors; repair or adjust pneumatic control valves and regulators; and perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment per manufacturer's instructions

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair boilers, fan turbines, pumps, condensate receivers, steam lines, expansion joints, strainers, pressure-reducing stations, piping, insulation, air compressors, water softeners, and other equipment for generating and controlling steam, requiring pipe fitting and other skills

Other Responsibilities

  • Required to participate in the quarterly on-call program, carrying a pager for one week at a time. This occurs every ten to fourteen weeks
  • This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).

Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrate through work, a depth of knowledge and skills for pneumatic controls, as well as DOC type of controls
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters
  • Able to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations
