Position Summary
The University of New Mexico, Department of Emergency Medicine's Center of Adult Critical Care (DEM) is currently seeking full-time faculty members with training and experience in Critical Care and academic Emergency Medicine. Successful applicants must have completed a medical, surgical, neuroscience or anesthesia critical care fellowship. Clinical responsibilities include direct patient care and supervision in the adult Intensive Care Units, and the Emergency Departments at the University of New Mexico Hospital and Sandoval Regional Medical Center, our affiliated community hospital. Academic opportunities include participation in the teaching, administrative and research activities with the Center for Adult Critical Care and the Department of Emergency Medicine.
UNM Health System is opening a new Critical Care Tower (CCT), in the summer of 2025. The CCT will include 96 ICU beds and 18 ORs and a new Emergency Department.
UNM Hospital has 556 inpatient beds and is home to New Mexico's only:
- Level I Trauma Center
- Children's Hospital
- ELSO Gold Level ECMO Center
- Comprehensive Stroke Center
The UNM Center for Adult Critical Care is currently responsible for 90 Critical Care and Critical Care step down beds system wide. Our team of physicians and nurse practitioners covers more than 520 weeks of clinical service per year across the health system. The UNM Center for Adult Critical Care is responsible for more than 6,000 unique ICU patient encounters each year.
The Department of Emergency Medicine has 72 full-time and part-time attending physicians, with Divisions of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Prehospital, Austere & Disaster Medicine. Our Toxicologists run the New Mexico Poison and Drug Information Center. Our education section includes an outstanding EM residency, multiple fellowships, and the EMS Academy. Our providers staff the Emergency Departments for UNM Hospital and Sandoval Regional Medical Center, the UNM Pediatric Emergency Department and Urgent Care. Opportunities exist to provide clinical care at the Gallup Indian Medical Center and the Metropolitan Detention Center.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Have an MD/DO or equivalent
- Completed a surgical, neuroscience,
medical or anesthesia critical care fellowship - Board certified or board eligible in
Emergency Medicine and Critical Care - 3 to 5 years of directly related
experience which may include time spent in residency and fellowship - State of New Mexico Medical license
and Federal DEA Certification at time of hire
