Assistant Teaching Professor in Education

The Department of Education is seeking a non-tenure track assistant teaching professor in early childhood education to start in August 2025.

The Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) Education Department offers early childhood, elementary, and middle school emphasis areas for the Bachelor of Science in Education. The department includes the Missouri S&T Child Development Center, which opened in January 2022, the Kummer Center for STEM Education, which provides outreach programming to K-12 students, and the South Central Regional Professional Development Center, which offers teacher training to the region. This educational ecosystem provides rich opportunities for research and collaboration.

The successful candidate will build and maintain professional relationships with area school districts to facilitate student-teacher placements and aid in recruitment efforts for the early childhood education program. The candidate will also collaborate with area school districts' administrations and early childhood faculty and staff to develop and implement meaningful early childhood education field experiences for pre-service teachers. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with the Director and Assistant Director of the S&T Child Development Center on the day-to-day operations of the Center, provide educational experiences to staff, and initiate clinical experiences for S&T students. In addition, the candidate will teach early childhood education courses, advise students in the program, and supervise field experiences. Faculty are expected to participate in department and university service as well as contribute to department recruitment activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned master's degree in early childhood education or child development
  • Three years experience in an early childhood setting
  • Early childhood or related teaching credential
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate level

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with NAEYC or other accreditation for early childhood centers
  • Successful grant writing experience
  • Experience facilitating teacher professional development
