Department: MCC Energy and Sustainability

Northwestern University's McCormick School of Engineering invites applications for one or more part-time, non-benefits eligible, Adjunct Lecturer positions in the Master of Science in Energy and Sustainability.

Adjunct Lecturers are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face to face, remote, and online. Adjunct Lecturers are employed based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment.

This posting will be used also to obtain a pool of qualified candidates. As teaching needs arise, applications will be reviewed for possible interviews. The number of adjunct faculty hired varies from academic term to term, depending upon the needs of the department.

Responsibilities:

Prepare and teach assigned courses at assigned class meetings, based on course catalog description and approved course outline;

Prepare and objectively grade class assignments and exams within a timely manner, in accordance with course outcomes;

Maintain accurate, transparent student records;

Assist and foster student success through the maintenance of regularly scheduled office hours and timely responses to e-mail inquiries;

Adhere to all administrative university policies such as the timely submission of completed midterm and final grades;

Maintain appropriate professional development to stay current within assigned courses;

Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics; and

Other duties as assigned by contract and/or by the Course Coordinator including assessing course(s) taught for continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have completed, or will have completed by the start date, a Masters, PhD or equivalent degree in Sustainability Management or a closely related field OR have equivalent demonstrated professional experience. Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in academic and/or applied experience within the field. International experience is highly desirable. The candidate should have broad expertise in the following:

Corporate Sustainability, Operations & Risk

And / Or, the Energy transition

Knowledge of critical concepts such as just transition, sustainability markets, energy and sustainability policy, evolving technology landscapes

Ability to teach in Evanston, IL in-person

A passion for supporting the next generation of leaders in energy and sustainability

The candidate should have expert level knowledge and experience in at leastONEof the following areas:

Artificial Intelligence and the Climate Transition

Carbon Markets (global)

Global Sustainability Policy (e.g.EU Green deal including the SFDR, EU Taxonomy)

Social Impact & Equity in the Climate Transition

Operational Sustainability (including but not limited to sustainable sourcing and sustainable supply chain)

Energy / Water Nexus

Hard to Abate Sectors (Steel, Cement, Chemicals)

Built Environment Sustainability / Net Zero Buildings

ESG Reporting, Standards and tools

TCFD, GRI, CDP, ESG Data Convergence Initiative, IRIS+, The Impact Management Project, and the Operating Principles For Impact Management

Experience with climate change concepts including GHG assessments, Science-Based Targets, NetZero Strategy and Decarbonization roadmaps

Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) Calculation, Analysis and Software

Preferred Qualifications:

International work experience

Teaching experience at the college level

Experience with a learning management system, preferably Canvas
