Job Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor directly supervises and coordinates the work activities of assigned skilled workers. Prepares work schedules, assigns work, and oversees the work performed.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Performs repairs to buildings, structures and equipment requiring advanced skill and expertise in one or more trade functions.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots maintenance issues.
  • Establishes work schedules and assigns work activities based on priority and skill level of employees.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure conformance to standards and repair requirements.
  • Prepares cost estimates and maintains records of job costs and hours worked.
  • Coordinates maintenance activities with other trade areas, vendors, or outside contractors.
  • Provides training in safety, maintenance techniques, operational procedures, and equipment use.
  • Requisitions materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, and replacement parts.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance guidelines.
  • Assists with the completion of performance evaluations of assigned staff.
  • Investigates accidents or injuries and completes applicable reporting requirements.
  • Serves as essential personnel and provides assistance in the event of an emergency on campus.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires a high school diploma and six years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Related full-time work experience, or the completion of an approved apprenticeship program in an appropriate trade and related full-time experience to total six years.
  • Experience supervising and delegating the work of others.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field.
  • 6 Years related work experience in a large commercial or educational setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge in at least two skilled trades.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of project and cost control techniques.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the operation, maintenance and repair of HVAC/refrigeration equipment.
  • Skill in talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Skill in identifying complex problems to develop options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and vendors in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
  • Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Ability to anticipate and diffuse problems before they occur.
  • Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes an equitable environment.
