The college of Engineering Deans Office is currently seeking Maker Space Proctors to join their team of professionals. Duties to include: Nestled within the heart of our FIU CEC campus, Maker Space is a beacon of creativity and ingenuity. We are seeking enthusiastic engineering students to join our team as Makerspace Facilitators. As a facilitator, you will play a pivotal role in fostering an environment where innovation thrives. Your responsibilities will include ensuring adherence to safety protocols, monitoring room reservations, and assisting students with the use of air media, tools, and technical equipment. You will also facilitate student project workshops, providing guidance and support as they bring their ideas to life. You will work as a mediator between faculty and students to ensure any use of this space adheres to safety guidelines and all materials and inventory used are approved and allowed including but not limited to appropriate technical equipment, chemicals, safety tools etc. - Enforce and educate students on Maker Space safety protocols. - Monitor and manage room reservations to ensure fair and organized usage. - Assist students in operating various tools and equipment, including 3D printers, air media, metalworking tools, and other technical devices. - Facilitate workshops and provide hands-on support for student projects. - Maintain and organize the workspace to ensure a conducive environment for creativity and collaboration. - Troubleshoot technical issues and perform routine maintenance on equipment. - Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, encouraging students to explore and innovate. Minimum Qualifications
At least 3 semesters of FIU work experience or related experience outside the University with satisfactory or higher from prior student appointment. - Currently enrolled at FIU engineering or computing program. - Strong understanding of safety protocols and best practices in a workshop setting. - Proficiency in using general technical equipment and tools commonly found in a makerspace. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. - Passion for creativity, innovation, and hands-on projects. - Ability to work collaboratively and supportively within student and faculty environment.
